Fashion Week Jewelry Trend Report

NY Fashion Week begins today. That means the usual wispy-looking things with legs for years leaning against buildings on 5th Ave. as if to prop themselves up in between Diet Cokes, a frenzy of street-fashion starlets getting snapped in front of Lincoln Center and my usual malaise that comes with knowing the future. Fashion Week is essentially a crystal ball through which we get a glimpse into next years collections, in this case, Spring/Summer 2013, and walk away slightly disenchanted with our current season’s clothing because it looks so. . .well, so this year!

On the up side, we know what to expect. Here is my prediction on what has run its course and what will linger for yet another year:

DEAD

Say goodbye and good riddens to the studded collar (thank God!) made popular by Alexa Chung, hipster doyenne extraordinaire. This “accessory” comes in many forms, studded, bejeweled, detachable etc. Why anyone would wear a detachable collar, quite frankly, is a conundrum I don’t have the brain cells to ponder. What I do know, is that the studded collar has become de rigeur for hipsters the world over and I will be happy to see this trend die put-put out to a shallow grave.

ALIVE

Of the things that will live to make us SWOON another season, if you’ve been hoarding the following trends, no reason to stop now–they aren’t going anywhere.

1. Rose Gold everything! Give me rose gold watches, rings, furniture, vespas. You can’t go wrong.

2. Neon (a reminder on how to wear neon here)

3. Yellow Gold, the more intense the better. Try it stacked against pale pink like in the photo below.
