lucite cuff

For the Love of Lucite Jewelry

Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), a transparent thermaplastic, often sold under the trade names: Lucite, Acrylic, Perspex, Plexiglas, etc.– is a material that is lighter and less brittle than glass.  Lucite also happens to be my obsession this season for jewelry and accessories.  Hello Charlotte Olympia Pandora clutch anyone?  For those of you out there who are on the verge of snubbing your noses at “plastic” jewelry, delay judgement for a moment whilst I show you how totally swish Lucite accessories can be.

What better way to show the world you have nothing to hide than to tote all your secrets in plain view?

For girls like me with small hands and wrists that get drowned out by big clunky bangles, clear lucite ones are a great alternative.  They don’t break the line of your arm and are much more flattering as a result.

Lucite necklaces match everything and add great texture and contrast as a layering piece.  For tips on how to layer necklaces read this post.

To add subdued sparkle to an already colorful or heavily patterned outfit, try a pair of lucite earrings–they will keep light moving around your face without competing with the rest of your outfit or makeup.

Lucite jewelry comes in many colors, not only transparent.  However, I am partial to the transparent kind because it is so useful and versatile in your arsenal of accessories.  Clear accessories are super flattering because they don’t break up the body thereby creating an elongating effect; they add texture and contrast when combined with other accessories; and they reflect light to areas you want to highlight without competing with the colors and patterns you already have going on.  If you need to take a second to swoon over lucite jewels and accessories please do.

Big Kiss and Bigger Diamonds,

  1. I I love lucite, plexi, etc… that purse is completely brilliant and I want one badly. The spider clutch puts it over the edge. And the flexibility of swapping out interiors is right up my crazy alley. Alexis Bittar is also a perpetual fave and way too overlooked in the south, where I live. I have dabbled some in resin jewelry but it’s hard to tell this piece has translucency since the glitter drowns it out in the photo: https://www.etsy.com/listing/110732399/giant-golden-beetle-in-glittered-red

    1. How cute, wish I knew about your piece when I posted about Scarab jewelry: http://www.delivermediamonds.com/egyptian-jewelry-scarab-infestation/
