I love my readers, they are every bit the fabulous brilliant empowering women and fashion-forward men that a girl dreams of. Yesterday, one of my favorite San Francisco start-up princesses sent in the following question and suggested that I start a series on DMD where I answer readers’ real life questions:
Start-up Princess: I have a question that may seem dumb to you b/c you talk about real jewelry… but I wanted to know what the best jewelry USB would be to get. One that has lots of storage space but also looks totally gorgeous and not cheesy like I’m 17.
JZP: Your question is not dumb at all, I’ve actually spent years looking for a blinged out USB. Sadly, even when I find some really good-looking ones they end up falling apart or breaking after a few uses. In terms of durability of USB drive and quality of crystals, I hate to say it but Swarovski is the most dependable out there.
Swarovski 4GB Crystalline USB key, available
here.
Swarovski 8GB USB lock in jet hematite, available
here. FYI Hematite is a dark grayish/black stone, it looks slightly darker than the photo in real life.
The Swarovski USBs above are a bit more reserved, as reserved as a crystal encrusted USB drive can be I suppose–but there are some quirky ones out there that I am quite fond of as well:
I know you said NOT 17-year-old schoolgirl but I think this robot one is amazing and it comes in 32GB. It reminds me of something you would find in Collette in Paris–its got that “I’m a sophisticated but whimsical adult that doesn’t take myself too seriously” vibe going on. Available
here.
These USB cufflinks are borderline cheesy but I really think the difference between pulling it off or instigating eye rolls is in the execution. Available
here.
I think as far as jewelry USB goes, most of the options out there are pretty offensive. Your best bet would be to go with either a plain Swarovski one or opt for a sophisticated fun one like the robot. Hope that was helpful.
Big Kiss and Bigger Diamonds,
JZP
maybe, i mean just a thought really, ya know at a time like this, instead of thinking about bedazzled and fancy USB drives…

My dear Patricia, the fact that someone writes about a topic on their blog does not mean that their lives consist of nothing else other than what they post about. Just like you can read jewelry blogs and also concern yourself with disaster relief efforts, I always assume others are equally well-rounded.
Thank you for your concern though, I’ve already donated to the Red Cross. My parents and many friends live in NYC so it is an issue that is very front of mind for me. I encourage others to do the same by texting per the instructions below.
So sad you feel the need to reprimand people partrica – most blogs are written and scheduled to post a week in advance – I am sure that Jean would never purposely have jeweled USBs coincide with Sandy. We are all adults here and our hearts go out to those buried in sand and sea.
…and for those who wish to donate – if you text Red Cross to 90999 you will automatically donate $10
